The Scientific and Technical Bulletin of the Institute of Animal Science of the NAAS is included in the new list of scientific professional editions of Ukraine where the results of the dissertations can be published (according to the decision of the Attestation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, order No. 747 of July 13, 2015).

The Scientific and Technical Bulletin covers the results of the different areas of agricultural production researches. Designed for scientists and agricultural professionals.
The Scientific and Technical Bulletin (STB) of the Institute of Animal Science of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine is included in the scientific-metric database - Russian Index of Scientific Citation (RIC) (license agreement № 649-10 / 2013 of October 23, 2013). The STB archive has been published in the RINC archive since 2010 (№ 102-112).

Editorial policy of the journal

Established in 1932, the professional journal "Scientific and Technical Bulletin" of the Institute of Animal Science of the NAAS (hereinafter referred to as the Journal) publishes exclusive articles in mixed languages (Ukrainian, Russian and English), which have not been previously published, thus creating a platform for the promotion of scientific knowledge and activation creative discussions between representatives of different scientific schools in the field of agro-industrial production.
The journal office supports the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), which aims at free distribution of animal science research, which promotes the development of science and integration of scientists into the international academic space. The journal office is actively working to include the publication in the international electronic libraries, catalogs and scientometric databases, to involve leading Ukrainian and international scientists to the procedure of articles reviewing.

The goal of the journal

The aim of the journal is publishing the results of fundamental and applied research, providing further its coordination and actualization. The journal is focused on covering a wide range of issues related to the development of the livestock industry, facilitating the coordination of scientific thought and the interaction of well-known scientists and young scientists.
The journal "Science and Technology Bulletin» publishes research, review articles and discussion materials on livestock production technology, feeding, keeping, genetics, breeding, and animal reproduction, and ensuring the quality of livestock products.
The publications at the Bulletin are for scientists, graduate students, university teachers and specialists in this field of study.
The first element of the journal's architectonics is a detailed summary of each article in three languages, containing an aggregate description of the main achievements and specific research results of the author(s) highlighted in the article. Further, in order to ensure access of the world scientific community to the author's development (s), this abstract, together with the full text of the printed article, is posted on the Institute's web site and provided to external bibliographic and abstract databases. The editorial staff is constantly working to ensure that the journal is represented in the leading libraries of Ukraine and the world.
The copyright of the printed materials is left to the authors. The author is responsible for the content of the printed article and the accuracy of the presented results and calculations.

Methodological, practical and research objectives of the journal:

  • ensuring productive dialogue between scientists;
  • helping scientists to disseminate their expertise and ideas to representatives of agro-industrial production;
  • publicizing the results of innovative fundamental and applied research that contributes to the development of knowledge on animal husbandry, as well as to improving the performance of livestock enterprises productions;
  • solving problems focused on the rational use of nature and improving the quality of livestock products.

Review procedure and editorial ethics

Ethical Commitments to Editors

  1. The members of the editorial board are responsible for deciding on the publication of a scientific article based on the principles of credibility and scientific value.
  2. Editors are responsible for compliance with the requirements and recommendations of the scientific article.
  3. Editors have the right to consult with reviewers in making a final decision on the publication of the article.
  4. The editorial board should not unnecessarily disclose information about accepted manuscripts to all persons, except for authors, reviewers, possible reviewers, and other scientific consultants.
  5. The editor must, without prejudice, review all manuscripts submitted for publication, evaluating each in a proper manner, regardless of racial, religious, national and any other affiliation, and the position or place of work of the author (authors).
  6. The sole responsibility for accepting or rejecting the manuscript rests with the editor. A responsible and balanced approach implies that the editor takes into account the reviewer's recommendation of the quality and reliability of the submitted for publication manuscript. However, manuscripts can be rejected without review if the editor decides that its do not fit the profile of this publication.
  7. Unpublished data obtained by the editorial board in the manuscripts submitted for review, as well as information or ideas obtained during the review, are kept confidential.
  8. After a positive decision by the editor, the article will published in a journal and published on the relevant electronic resources of the institution.
  9. The responsibility and rights of the journal editor in respect of any submitted manuscript, authored by the editor himself, should be delegate to any member of the editorial board.
  10. If there is convincing evidence that the main content or conclusions of a published in the journal article are in error, the editor should facilitate the publication of a corresponding message in next issue, indicating this error and, if possible, correcting it. This message may be write by the person who detected the error or by an independent author.
  11. The editorial board is not responsible to authors and / or third persons and organizations for any possible damage caused by the publication of the article. The editorial board has the right to remove an article that has already published if the publication of the article violates someone's rights or generally accepted norms of scientific ethics. The editorial board shall inform the author of submitted article, the recommending person and the organization where the work was performed about the fact of the article deletion.

Ethical Commitments to Authors

  1. Provide accurate results of the completed work, as well as objective discussion of the importance of the study.
  2. Authors may be asked for raw data related to the manuscript for review by the editorial board.
  3. Authors should make sure that the original work has been submitting and, in the case of other authors' works, or references, must provide appropriate bibliographic references.
  4. The author should cite those publications that have had a decisive influence on the work, as well as those that can quickly acquaint the reader with earlier works that are important to understanding this study. With the exception of reviews, references not directly related to this message should be minimized.
  5. The author should not publish a manuscript with the same research more than one journal. Submission of the same manuscript at the same time more than one journal is an unethical and unacceptable.
  6. The authors of the publication can serve only persons who have made significant contribution to the implementation of the study.
  7. The authors of articles have full responsibility for the content of the articles.
  8. The author shall finalize article according to the comments of reviewers or the editorial board.

Ethical Commitments to Reviewers

  1. Reviewing helps the Editor decide on a publication of articles, and can help the author improve the quality of the article.
  2. If the selected reviewer is not sure that his or her qualification is relevant to the level of research presented in the manuscript, he / she should inform about it.
  3. Reviewers should not be involved in the review of manuscripts in the event of conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, and other interactions and relationships with any of the authors of submitted article.
  4. Reviewer should respect the intellectual independence of the authors.
  5. Each manuscript received for review should be treated as a confidential document. This work cannot opened and discussed with any person who does not have the authority. The exception is when a reviewer needs someone's special advice.
  6. Reviewers should adequately explain and reason their opinions so that editors and authors can understand what their comments are based on.
  7. The reviewer should note any instances of insufficient citation by the authors of the articles of other scientists directly related to the peer-reviewed work.
  8. The reviewer must provide feedback in a timely manner.
  9. Unpublished data obtained from submitted manuscripts for review not using in personal research or references without the written consent of the author. The information or ideas received during the review and related to the potential benefits should be kept confidential and not used for personal gain.

The procedure for designing and submitting an article

All submitted articles has been reviewing. The review procedure is focuses on the most objective evaluation of the content of the scientific article, determining its compliance with the requirements of the journal and provides a comprehensive analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the article. Scientifically valuable articles in agricultural science and educational tasks accepted for publication.

  1. The author submits an article that meets the requirements of the journal.
  2. The article is accompanied by the official list of the institution and the copyright transfer agreement (to be completed by each author / co-author separately with a mandatory original signature), which is sent by e-mail or submitted personally by the author. Without copyright transfer agreement, the manuscript is not considered. The sample download here. In case of refusal to publish the article, the agreement automatically expires.
  3. Checking the article for antiplagiate. All submitted articles are determine by the degree of uniqueness using the appropriate software.
  4. All submitted manuscripts are forward to the reviewers at research profile by Editor-in-Chief’s decision. The individual articles by distinguished scientists as well as specially invited review articles may be exempted from the standard review procedure.
  5. For reviewing articles, both members of the editorial board of the scientific journal and other highly qualified specialists with deep professional knowledge and experience in a specific scientific area can involve in reviewing at the request of the editorial board.
  6. The reviewer within a maximum of 14 days conclude that the article may be printed (fill in a standardized form containing summary recommendations).
  7. Reviewing is conducted confidentially according to the principles of double-blind reviewing (neither the author nor the reviewer know about each other). The interaction between the author and the reviewers takes place through the journal's editor.
  8. If the reviewer indicates the necessity of making certain corrections to the article, the article will sent to the author with the suggestion to take into account the comments in the preparation of the updated version of the article or to substantiate them. The new version will re-submitted to the reviewer for a decision and reasoned opinion on the possibility of publication preparation.
  9. The final decision on the possibility and expediency of publication has made at a meeting of the Editorial Board.

 The aim of the research was to study the genealogical structure of the Ukrainian Warmblood horse breed on the mare families that form the population, and to evaluate them on the basis of a set of breeding characteristics. Studied the pedigree of the mares of the subjects of breeding breeding horses of the Ukrainian Warmblood breed (n=272).
 In structure of Ukrainian riding breed dedicated mares families, the role of the mares of different breeds ancestors in the matrilineal structure of modern breeding nucleus of the breed. The evolution of the uterine nucleus formation of the Ukrainian Warmblood breed is analyzed. Structural units of the mare nucleus were evaluated by a complex of breeding characteristics.
 It is proved that the creation of the Ukrainian Warmblood breed was significantly influenced by the use of Hungarian horses at the early stage of the formation of the producing composition. A significant number of mare families created on the basis of Hungarian breeds, which belonged to the mother of the ancestors and the ancestors themselves. The analysis of the origin of mares-ancestors of modern mare families showed that their pedigrees are built mainly on Trakenen-Hungarian, Thoroughbred-Hungarian and Thoroughbred-Trakenen-Hungarian breed complexes.
 At the time of testing of the Ukrainian Warmblood breed 16 mare families were registered, which included from 4 to 21 mares. The most numerous were the families of Nona, 541 Khokhlatka (10.4 % each), 496 Flangova (9.5 %) and Farsa (9.0 %). The best set of features was evaluated families: 86 Infra I, 266 of Arizona, 317 Bylina, 89 Kanitel, 104 Maritza, Nona, 541 Khokhlatka, Farsa, 496 Flangova, Favoritka.
 It is established that the modern structure of the Ukrainian Warmblood breed includes 23 mare families, the number of mares in which is from three or more heads. The most numerically mare families by the number of successor: 159 Tema (13.2 %) and 86 Infra I (12.5 %). In addition, the mare part of the horse plants are also used 29 mares originating from the mare families of other breeds (Thoroughbred, Westphalian, Hanoverian, Trakenen, Orlov’s Trotter). Another 20 mares belong to 13 small mare families, including 1-2 mares.
 The highest rating on the number of descendants – winners and prize-winners in classical equestrian sports of international and national levels was received by uterine families: 266 Arizona, 91 Kafedra, 159 Tema, 318 Bylinka and 160 Tina (share of winners and prize-winners of international and national competitions 9,2 %, 8,6 %, 6,6 %, 5,9 % and 5.9 % respectively).
 Given the limitations of the gene pool of the Ukrainian Warmblood breed, mare families and nests are promising structural units that are able to reproduce horses with a valuable genotype in proven genealogical combinations. Distribution of representatives of valuable mare families in various subjects of breeding contributes to their preservation and testing in the selection of different genealogical lines.

 Meat in human diet is the main source of biologically complete protein. Protein supply has always been a topical issue of the agro-industrial complex, which has become more acute at present, as the overall scientifically justified norm of its consumption per capita in Ukraine is rapidly decreasing every year and amounts to 54.6 kg against 80 kg. Therefore, increasing the production and improving the quality of meat products, in particular beef, including beef obtained from beef cattle, is an important national economic task. Successful solution of this problem is possible with the introduction of scientifically based system of tribal work, the main element of which is breeding along the lines.
 Znamensky type Poliska breed was created in 2009. The breed is represented by lines of Radyst 113, Mazun 6 and Darovanyy 400, moreover, there are other lines in the farms of the Ukraine, which are not included in the final composition of the breed.
 In the framework of the research 4 groups of full-age cows of the Znamensky type were formed with 10 cows in each: I – control (animals that were not included in the experimental groups); II experimental – lines of Mazun 6; III experimental – lines of Radyst 113; IV experimental – lines of Darovanyy 400. Three cows were taken from each group for slaughter. The experimental animals of all groups were kept in the conditions of classical technology of beef cattle breeding. It was found out that by the mass of the lumbar and hips, which are the most valuable, the cows lines of Radyst 113 had a significant advantage. The highest relative and absolute masses of the cervical part of the carcass were observed in cows of lines Mazun 6 and Darovanyy 400. Whereas cows of III group significantly surpassed control analogues and representatives of II group by weight of the chilled carcasses. Cows the descendants of Darovanyy 400 were in an intermediate position. A similar dependence was noted for the quantity of meat of the first grade. The tasting analysis shows that the meat and broth of all the experimental animals were of good quality and got high marks.

 Improving the efficiency of breeding for fox’s reproductive qualities advasing is associated with the selection of individuals with certain economically useful traits and evaluated for their ability to transfer and fix ones in subsequent generations. A combining ability of parental lines determination, as well as individual characteristics of animals, is paramount. The factors characterizing the contribution of each parents, as well as their combination with each other in the formation of the descendant’s productive potential, are the combinational capacity components, which are disclosed on the basic fur animal farming of Kharkiv region.
 The analysis of six lines of the breeding core of silver-black foxes was carried out and the general and specific combining ability of maternal and paternal forms were determined by fertility. The probable influence of the specific combining ability of the combinations to the studied parameter was established, which allowed a clear differen-tiation of the lines according to the level of fertility: improvers, neutral and degraders. In addition to the obvious fundamental value, the information obtained is also important practical point of view. In particular, it was concluded that it is advisable to use indi-vidual representatives of the lines, as well as the most promising options for combinations of parental pairs. Using components of combining ability, outsiders are defined, which should be excluded from the further selection process. The actual research materials illustrate the results of dispersive analysis of differences in fertility of females, average fertility rates of combinations of maternal and paternal lines, combination capacity of lines, effects of general combining ability, constants and variants of specific combination ability of linear foxes.

 A dairy cattle breeding is one of the leading livestock sectors, the improvement of conservation technology and increasing the period of use and maintenance of high milk yield of cows when introducing domestic and foreign milking equipment being a key factor of its successful development in Ukraine. At the same time, many important issues concerning automatic milking of cows in dairy parlors remain underexplored. To a lesser extent, the influence of various techniques on the milking process of all cow herd has been studied, methodological approaches to determining the level of their influence on lactation indicators during the performance of certain standard mechanized processes, the optimal modes of operation of equipment that can clearly take into account the current physiological needs of each animal in the herd have not been developed. An important link in obtaining high-quality milk is pre-dairy and post-dill treatment of cow's lips. These measures can reduce the morbidity of mastitis of cows in the herd by 5070 %, as well as increase the level of purity of the udder and minimize the risk of infection with the associated mastitis causative agents.Therefore, the purpose of the research consisted in the substantiation and improvement of certain techniques of automatic milking of high-yielding cows on complexes of industrial type. It has been established that when using traditional and group methods of preparation of high-yielding cows for milking in parlors in comparison with group technique with the use of disinfectants, the average intensity of milk yield decreases respectively by 8.6 % and 5.0 %, and the duration of milking process, on the contrary, increases by 12.8 % (p<0.05) and 8.1 %. Along with this, it has been proved that the use of the group technique with the use of disinfectants provides milk of higher grade with the quantity index of somatic cells within 49–94 ths/cm3. Researches confirm the importance of preparatory operations during machine milking, which stimulate the intensity of milk removal production and improve the hygienic quality of milk.

 The results of scientific and production researches on formation of genealogical mother-to-beings families of cows of the Sumy intrabred type of Ukrainian black-and-white milk breed in the herd of the breeding plant "First of May" of Sumy region and their estimation on productive features are given. The mother families of cows of the breeding herd, which are characterized by high milk content, fat content and protein content are defined. Evaluation of the combinational ability of lines and families of cows showed that the most successful selection of bulls to breeding stock formed families obtained from a combination of Yeleveyshna 1491007, Valiant 1650414, Chief 1427318 and Starbuck 352790 lines. It has been established that mother families of Sumy intra-breed type cows of Ukrainian black-and-white milk breed are sufficiently consolidated on the basis of milk productivity. The milk productivity of the genealogical breeding families of cows was unequal in terms of generations. In subsequent generations from the ancestors of families to their great-grandchildren there was a decrease in the phenotypic variety of signs of the milk production of animals. The coefficients of inheritance of milk yield and fat content in milk on the maternal line in the existing genealogical families were significantly low (h23=0,14-0,19, P>0,95. The influence of heredity of the ancestors of uterine families on the signs of milk productivity of their offspring in subsequent generations decreased.
 In each genealogical family a breeding core has been formed, which includes cows with the highest milk productivity in the family. The scheme of selection of bulls-producers of planned lines to the breeding families of cows and measures for the selection and com-prehensive evaluation of cows-record of breeding herd, which should be used as potential ancestors of new breeding families. It is shown that breeding with families contributes to the formation of the optimal structure of the breeding herd, the effective use of record cows, provides an increase in the genetic potential of milk production of animals. It is shown that the implementation of the planned activities of breeding with families of cows will improve the efficiency of intra-breeding of Ukrainian black-and-white dairy breed.

 The article presents the results of growing of young dairy and meatSimmental, hybrids of dairy and meat Simmental with Austrian selectionmeatSimmental, and Austrian selectionmeatSimmental breed. Studies were conducted at the breeding plant "Golovenkovskoye" Borznyansky district of Chernihiv region by the technology of beef cattle on the ground under the cows. Studied the dynamics of live weight and average daily gains of bulls of the Simmental breed of different directions of productivity when using regime suction from birth to 6 months of age. It was found that these indicators were the best in animals of the third group (Simmental meat Austrian breed) during the whole study. Thus, the increase in live weight compared with animals of group I was large by 6.7-7.5%, group II - 3.6-3.8%, and the average daily increase over the entire period of experience - by 4.6% and 2 , 2% respectively. Also determined the fitness of bulls Simmentals breed of various breeding in conditions of detention in Ukraine. The change in air temperature during the summer period during the day was studied and its influence on the body temperature, respiration rate and pulse at different times of the day was established, and the heat resistance index of young cattle was calculated. We studied the body's protective system of bulls of experimental groups with the help of some indicators of specific and nonspecific immunity. For this, an analysis was made of the results obtained from immunological blood parameters, where T-lymphocytes, phagocytic activity and phagocytic index in the rock section were studied. It has been established that the bulls of the Simmental meat Austrian breed were distinguished by a more active system of specific cellular and humoral immune protection, and the bulls of the local Simmental milk-meat breed had an increased phagocytic activity.
